Legendary songstress Mehnaz Begum's body arrives


KARACHI: The body of Pakistani singing legend, Mehnaz Begum, who had passed away in Bahrain on Saturday while on her way to United States for medical treatment, has arrived in Karachi two days after, Geo News reported.
A chronic patient of diabetes and asthma, Mehnaz was travelling to the US for advanced medical care, but death cut her journey short.
According to sources her funeral prayer will be offered at Imam Bargah Ancholi following Zohar Prayer today (Monday). He last resting place will be in Wadi-e-Hussain graveyard in Sohrab Goth, they added.
Reportedly she collapsed after her condition worsened while she was waiting for her flight to US in the boarding lounge at Bahrain airport.
Mehnaz, 55, was rushed to a healthcare facility in the gulf state where she breathed her last. Doctors pronounced her dead soon after.
Mehnaz was the daughter of celebrated sub-continental singer Kajjan Begum.
She sang over 2,500 songs for radio‚ television, and films in a variety of genres like ghazal, thumri, dadra, khayal, and drupad.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf have condoled her death terming it a national loss.
